The process of wind farm design involves a number of disciplines and skilled use of sophisticated software tools. These methodologies will be examined, discussed and applied under the guidance of our trainer.
Starting from the principles of wind flow, turbulence, wake effects, and ending with optimized energy production and careful environmental analysis, this course provides an excellent grounding in the underlying concepts of wind farm design. In addition, it will equip attendees with a basic understanding in the use of WindFarmer software, with particular focus on the following areas:
Base Module: Energy calculation, turbine representation, noise modelling, optimization, report generation;
MCP+ Module: Use of measured wind data, Measure Correlate Predict;
Visualization Module: 3D visualization and animation, zones of visual influence;
Shadow Flicker Module: Shadow flicker maps & analysis, shadow flicker limits.
This course is supported by concise notes, examples and hands-on exercises, and attendees will also receive a demonstration copy of WindFarmer for follow-up exploration. The attendee numbers are kept low to allow each participant to receive maximum attention. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion throughout the course.
Tom Levick, WindFarmer Product Manager (MPhys University of Oxford), has been working for DNV GL since 2011, previously Garrad Hassan. Tom first worked in the Project Development group responsible for undertaking pre construction energy assessments as well as providing other technical services to developers, financiers and other project stakeholders. More recently he worked as a software product owner for an internal wind analysis software tool and now manages the development of the next generation of WindFarmer: Analyst software. He also delivers short training courses on wind farm design and the use of WindFarmer software for clients and universities.
