As the industry looks for more rigorously validated methods for calculating design loads for wave energy devices, more rigorous modelling is required. Designers need to be able to simulate their designs under a number of different conditions, including maintenance, sea states (with varying weather, calm to extreme) and normal conditions. Complete load calculations are needed for performance prediction, mechanical design and prototype certification.
WaveDyn is the first fully coupled simulation tool designed for wave energy converters. It allows the user to simulate the performance and loading of a wave energy device. The software includes hydrodynamics calculations and modelling of control and power take-off systems.
